I grew up in Texas. I earned my BS in bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh with a focus on cellular and tissue engineering and a minor in mathematics. As an undergraduate I researched at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. I investigated macrophage polarization and peripheral nerve regeneration in response to extracellular matrix hydrogels. After graduating I joined the bioengineering PhD program at UW. My current research focuses on improving healing of skin around medical devices at the percutaneous interface through the use of porous biomaterials. This research is part of efforts to improve hemodialysis blood access by the Center for Dialysis Innovation. In my free time I perform as an aerialist and acrobat. I also enjoy reading and knitting.
