Outreach

Our outreach program coordinates opportunities for bioengineering students to give back to their communities. Together we volunteer with community organizations, lead interactive STEM activities at local schools and science fairs, develop age-appropriate teaching modules to accompany hands-on activities, promote STEM inclusivity through career panels and high school visits, and more!

If your school or organization is interested in engaging your students in hands-on bioengineering activities led by University of Washington undergraduate and graduate students, please reach out to us at bmesuw@uw.edu!

Outreach Modules

  • Build a Prosthetic
  • Extract Strawberry DNA
  • Explore Ultrasound
  • Investigate Implants
  • Experiment with Neural Engineering
  • Model Drug Delivery with Nanoparticles

Explore Engineering at Home!

With the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, BMES Outreach at UW developed at-home activities based on our DNA Extraction and Build a Prosthetic outreach modules. Now parents, teachers, and community organizations can share interactive bioengineering projects with the next generation of aspiring scientists! Please see our guided activities below for instructions.
