WSEHA 2019 Environmental Health Scholarships

The Washington State Environmental Health Association (WSEHA) scholarship program gives recognition to outstanding and deserving undergraduate students majoring in environmental health (or in an allied discipline) and who intend to take employment in the field of environmental health in Washington State upon completion of the baccalaureate degree requirements.

This year the Association will award up to $2,000 in one or more scholarships.

The Washington State Environmental Health Association will award up to $2,000 in one or more undergraduate scholarship awards this year through the Cind M. Treser Memorial Student Scholarship Fund.  The Cind M. Treser Scholarship program was instituted to provide recognition and a financial incentive for undergraduate students majoring in environmental health (or in other life sciences), who have an interest in pursuing a career in environmental health in the state of Washington.

The scholarship will be presented at the 67th WSEHA Annual Education Conference, May 6-8 in Yakima, Washington.  The scholarships will be awarded directly to the student and may be used by the student as he or she sees fit.

General Criteria:  In order to be eligible for the scholarship, the student must:

  1. Be enrolled in a program either accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Environmental Health Curricula, or have a curriculum comparable to the model curriculum recommended by the Na­tional Accreditation Council, i.e., the program should include substantial coursework in the following areas;
  2. Biology and Microbiology,
  3. General and Organic Chemistry,
  4. Epidemiology,
  5. Biostatistics, and,
  6. Environmental Health Sciences (e.g., food protection, air pollution, water and wastewater, solid waste, vector control & housing, toxics & hazardous substances, hazardous waste, etc.);
  7. Be a student member of WSEHA, or become a member upon receipt of the scholarship;
  8. Demonstrate his/her intent to become employed in the field of environmental health in Washington fol­lowing graduation;
  9. Submit a completed Cind M. Treser Memorial Scholarship application packet (see below);
  10. Be able to attend the WSEHA Annual Education Conference to receive the scholarship award; and,
  11. Not be a previous winner of the award.

Special Criteria:   Students of color and specially challenged students are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Packet:  The 2019 Scholarship Packet consists of completing the on-line application form, submitting a copy of your college transcript, and having an advisor or instructor complete an on-line recommendation form.  The forms are available at: https://www.wseha.org/scholarship-forms.
