VTA has two openings in the Travel Demand Modeling, Geospatial Analytics, and Research group. These are consultant/contractor positions who would be working full-time at VTA. They’re bringing them on board through AECOM. There is currently no term limit on the position. They have been having these contractor positions for 6-9 years (6 years for position #2 and 9 years for position #1)
VTA plays two major roles: (1) transit service provider for Santa Clara County and (2) the congestion management agency for our county. Essentially, they are the multi-modal transportation planning and implementation agency in Silicon Valley.
The two openings are:
(1) Transportation Modeler Position (requires prior work experience in travel demand modeling)
(2) Transportation Analyst Position (recent or fresh grads welcomed to apply!)
Highlights of the exciting projects VTA is currently engaging in includes:
- a $5.4 billion 6-mile extension of BART (in which VTA has been selected in its pilot program Expedited Project Delivery),
- a $453 million LRT extension to East San Jose to provide the area easy access to LRT and BART
- re-design of Diridon Station in downtown San Jose, the most prominent transit center in Silicon Valley when BART Phase 2 opens (while VTA is the lead, this project include other major players such as Caltrain, Hi-Speed Rail Authority, and City of San Jose)
- a countywide managed lane program to convert existing HOV lanes into managed lanes (we’re currently in Phase 3 of the project, which is estimated at about $56 million)
- A countywide Complete Street program
- A countywide bicycle super-highway program
- Numerous transit-oriented joint developments (TOJDs) around our LRT stations
In addition to the various capital projects and on-going programs, with COVID-19 and the potential changes in travel pattern in the post-COVID era, VTA anticipates even more data analytics work to help inform decision-making in a future filled with more uncertainty than before.
