Check out SEFS 508 for AUT2021

Seniors: Check out SEFS 508: Plant Modeling for a Fall 2021 course. It’s 3 credits, SLN: 21141, Friday 9:30-12:20.

In this class, you will apply what you know about the physiology and ecology of plants to build process-based computer models and use them to make predictions and test hypotheses. Through modeling, you will address questions such as “how does crop and ecosystem productivity respond to climate change?” and “When will the cherry trees bloom in UW campus and throughout the world?” You will work primarily with mechanistic models but also seek other approaches including machine learning to improve our ability to model. Basic understanding of plant physiology and interest in modeling are what’s needed to take this course. You will do quite a bit of coding in Julia language using Cropbox package (https://github.com/cropbox) but fluency in programming is not required.
