CEE Ugrad Weekly: Mental Health Resources, 22-23 Projected Course List, FE Exam, Letters of Rec, etc.

CEE Undergraduate Weekly (2.23.2022)

Hello CEE Majors –

We have a few items to share with you this week including CEE projected courses for AY 22-23, Sr. year planning help & SPR22 registration (see attachments), mental health resources, the FE Exam and Letters of Recommendations (something everyone will need!) :

CEE Projected Courses for AY 22-23

The CEE Projected Course list for Academic Year 2022-23 is now posted online: https://www.ce.washington.edu/current/curriculum/undergrad

One important update we want to share is that CEE 420: Engineering with Developing Communities is not planned to be offered in AY 22-23.

In fact, if you were planning on a course that is not listed on the AY 22-23 projected course list, you should plan a replacement course. (A solid replacement for CEE 420 could be CEE 498: Engineering, Environment & Justice which will also satisfy the Diversity requirement.)

Senior Year Planning

We’ve also included our senior year planning instructions and worksheets as an attachment to this email….these resources are intended to be engaging for all CEE majors, regardless of class standing.

If you have questions or feedback about these resources, please let us know!

Mental Health Resources

Now is a stressful time for many and UW has valuable resources available to you. If you have questions or need help connecting with these resources, please let us know!

  • UW Counseling Center: The UW Counseling Center has merged with Hall Health Mental Health units to provide mental health resources to the UW campus community. Please take a look at their website to see all of the resources available to you. They are also providing tips with how to deal with stress related to the COVID-19 outbreak and is offering their services remotely.

The Counseling Center is a free, confidential resource for students and offers professional services for stress management, coping strategies, and ways to manage conditions like anxiety and depression. You can make an appointment by calling 206-543-1240.

  • Husky Health and Well-Being: Husky Health and Well-Being offers a wide range of health and wellness services, from exceptional medical care and counseling services to recreation classes, safety resources, peer advocates, trainings and more. Their goal is to support health, safety, and well-being so you can make the most of your UW experience.
  • CareLink: CareLink is a free, confidential helpline for UW employees (mainly faculty and staff) that is staffed by licensed professionals who can talk with you about how to navigate difficult life situations and help with stress management. They can also refer callers to one of their affiliated therapists for in-person counseling sessions. You can reach a representative 24/7 by calling 866-598-3978.

FE Exam (BSCE/BSENVE Juniors and Seniors)

Your BSCE and BSENVE junior year 300-level curriculum is set up to prepare you to take the FE Exam, which in turn provides you with your Engineer in Training License (EIT).  The majority of CEE majors will take the FE Exam (Civil or Environmental) in the summer after the Junior year. Information can be found here. (Please note that the FE Exam schedule may be impacted by COVID19. It is our recommendation that you create an account and try to sign up to take the FE exam. If there are delays, you will be informed of them during the registration process.)

Letters of Recommendation (BSCE/BSENVE Juniors and Seniors)

Whether you are applying to graduate school or for a full-time job after graduation, you will need letters of recommendation from CEE Faculty. We recommend choosing a few faculty members, either who you’ve taken classes with or who are in your area of focus, to reach out to. They are expecting to hear from you so do this sooner rather than later.  When you contact them, make sure you are providing them with enough information (who you are, your goals, next steps, etc.) that they can write you a personal letter.

As always, you can connect with us via appointment or drop in hours!
