Abstract: Degenkolb Engineers designed a new mass timber school in Washington, using glu-lam beams and columns and cross-laminated timber roof. The school will support grades K-12 and includes classrooms and a gymnasium. Design challenges included a remote site; exposed wood connections; and challenging foundation conditions.
The presentation will highlight aspects of the structural design of the school and provide an overview of Degenkolb Engineers. They are currently looking for an intern with preference to a first year MS student in structural engineering.
Speaker Bios: Kyle Steuck, Associate Principal at Degenkolb Engineers is a UW graduate with 14 years of experience in new building design and existing building retrofit. Jacci Rock is a Designer in Degenkolb’s Seattle office and a member of the AIA Seattle committee on mass timber construction.
