The Future of Flight  –  What Can Be Versus What Should Be

This seminar will focus on the amazing array of technologies that are currently impacting the design and operation of future airplanes and flying vehicles.  It is the intent of this presentation to examine the exciting technologies that might be employed and examine whether they make economic and or operational sense.

Bio:
A native of Berkley, CA, Phil Condit was born in August of 1941. He has been an aviation enthusiast his entire life. He is married to Geda Maso Condit and has two daughters and four grandsons.

He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1963; a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Princeton University in 1965; a master’s degree in management from the MIT Sloan School in 1975; and, in 1997, a doctorate in engineering from Science University of Tokyo, where he was the first Westerner to earn such a degree.

Phil spent 38 years at the Boeing Company in more than 20 assignments.  He was elected president and member of the board of directors of Boeing in 1992, and added the title of chief executive officer in 1996. In 1997, he was elected chairman. He was the seventh chairman since the company was founded in 1916. He retired from the company in March 2004.

  • Board Member and former Chairman – Pacific Science Center

  • Member –  National Academy of Engineering
  • Honorary Fellow – Royal Aeronautical Society
  • Honorary Fellow – American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics

Phil also enjoys teaching, speaking on leadership and business at various schools and other venues around the United States.  He has lectured at Columbia University, Air Force Academy, Colorado College, University of Washington, Pepperdine, and SMU. Phil and his wife are avid philanthropists and love to travel.
