Opportunity to visit Yessler Terrace Tall Building Construction SIte – Wed, 5/24 (2:15pm)

OPPORTUNITY to visit a tall building construction site in Yesler Terrace area on Wednesday afternoon, 5/24. This building is ~20-story apartment / condominium building with ground-floor businesses.  The building structural system comprises reinforced concrete walls to resist lateral loads and a reinforced concrete flat-slab and column system to resist gravity loads. The tour will provide an opportunity to see reinforcement layouts and concrete formwork as well as, on lower stories, exterior cladding and internal HVAC, water and electric systems.

The building is located at 809 Yesler Avenue. Please arrive at the site at 2:15 pm wearing long pants, closed-toed shoes with sturdy soles, and a shirt that covers midriff and shoulders. I will provide PPE required for the tour (hard hat, reflective vest, and eye protection). When I visited the site recently, it took about 30 min to get there; I took the link from campus to Pioneer Square and walked up the hill to 809 Yesler – it’s a bit of a hike up, but not too bad. Google maps provides other transportation options that require less walking.

If you are not a CEE 337 student, please email me, Professor Laura Lowes, at lowes@uw.edu, to let me know you will participate.
