Hello CEE Students,

Happy September from your advisers, Brian Kinnear (he/him) and Lauren Lanum (she/her)! We are excited to work with you this year and welcome everyone (back) to campus.

With summer coming to a close in just a few short weeks, we wanted to put a few things on your radar for this year about how to connect with us and make sure you aren’t missing anything.

Ways to Connect with your Advisers

1. Attend CEE Drop-In Advising (T/W 11-12pm. Starting Wed, 9/27): Drop-in advising details can be found on the CEE Advising Calendar.
2. Schedule a 30-minute, One-on-One Advising Appointment:
   • You can find our advising calendars on the CEE Advising Page, as well as linked in our email signature below.
   • If you need to meet and are not free during any of our available appointment times, please send us an email at ceadvice@uw.edu with your weekly availability, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
   • All appointment types are available either in-person or via Zoom. In-person appointments take place in More Hall 201. If you schedule a Zoom appointment, a link will be provided to you after you book the appointment.
3. Email Questions to your Advising Team at ceadvice@uw.edu Many of your questions can be answered through email. When emailing, please make sure to include your full name and your UW student ID number. We do ask that you still use email (ceadvice@uw.edu) to communicate with us about individual questions, rather than sending canvas messages

            ***CEE doesn’t have “assigned” advisers, so both civil and environmental engineering students may meet with either Brian or Lauren at any time, depending on availability and preference. 

CEE Advising Communication Resources

To communicate with you, we will use a combination of the following:

1. The CEE Undergraduate Advising Canvas Page Canvas will be our primary method of communicating information to our student population – we’ll use it to post weekly updates about department happenings and deadlines, as well as any important announcements or time-sensitive information. New students will be added to the page before AUT23 begins.
2. The CEE Undergraduate Email List: cee_ugrads@uw.edu. If you are not already subscribed, you will be added soon! We use the email list serve to distribute information on one-off opportunities and announcements, such as job or internship postings, scholarships opportunities or campus events.Quite a few emails get sent to the list so if you’d like to receive one email per day, you can set up a digest where all emails sent to this list within a 24 hour window will be sent as one email. You can find your digest options by logging in with your UW Net ID at the following link: http://mailman12.u.washington.edu/mailman/listinfo/cee_ugrads
3. The CEE Student News Blog All emails sent to cee_ugrads@uw.edu will be archived on the CEE Student News Blog where we list job opportunities, internships, scholarships, events/info sessions, and other relevant information. Each blog post is tagged with categories that you can find in the right column.
