Deadline Extended for the
2024 NHERI REU Program
Dear Undergrads,
The extended deadline for applications is Sunday, February 25
REU program overview. Each year, NHERI facilities host a total of 33 undergraduates to participate in natural hazards research, studying ways to mitigate damage from earthquakes, tsunamis, windstorms and hurricanes — in fields that include coastal engineering, data management, cyberinfrastructure, post-event reconnaissance, simulation and modeling, and social science research. Typical student majors include engineering, computer science, architecture, public policy, and social science.
During this NSF-funded summer experience, NHERI REU students work with faculty and graduate students to conduct research at one of NHERI’s 11 sites:
· The Wall of Wind at Florida International University
· Real-Time Multi-Directional Natural Hazards Simulation Facility (RTMD) at Lehigh University
· The O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory at Oregon State University
· The NHERI SimCenter at University of California, Berkeley
· The Center for Geotechnical Modeling (CGM) at University of California, Davis
· The Large High Performance Outdoor Shake Table (LHPOST) at University of California, San Diego
· The CONVERGE Facility at University of Colorado Boulder
· The Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Experimental Facility at the University of Florida
· The Large-Scale Mobile Shakers at University of Texas at Austin
· The Rapid Response Research Facility (RAPID) at University of Washington
