Dear Students,
The Solar Decathlon is looking for students to participate in the 2024-2025 competition! The Solar Decathlon competition is an interdisciplinary collegiate competition where students design sustainable net-zero energy buildings for disadvantaged communities. We use concepts from the Built Environments and Engineering to create buildings that can power themselves using solar energy! We have leadership positions open for those who are interested.
Here is an example from this year’s competition:
Georgia Tech, Residential Housing Division Winner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHgk9gG6vpQ&t=9251s
We seek students from the College of Built Environments and the College of Engineering who are passionate about:
- Designing buildings that leverage climate to minimize active system usage
- Engaging directly with industry professionals for feedback and mentorship
- Constructing building models for quantitative daylighting tests
- Utilizing software for Energy Modeling, Embodied Carbon Modeling, and Calculations
- Innovating in Energy-Efficient HVAC and MEP design
- Exploring the social impacts of buildings, including affordable housing, health, and market analysis
If you do not have any plans over the summer, we are also offering a summer cohort of students to practice their design skills and learn more about the competition itself! After filling out the form below, please email solardecathlon@uw.edu if you are interested in the summer cohort!
