Greetings!
I hope you all have been having a great start to Autumn quarter and are now shifting into gear with your coursework 🙂
My name is Keanu Ortega and I am a current 3rd year civil engineering student introducing a new club UW Timber Strong Design Build. This will be a brand new addition to the clubs under the CEE department (Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge being the two) and will be based under the ASCE. We will be designing and building a 2 story timber structure. The project will span from October 2024 until April 2025. In April we will display our skills and work at the 2025 ASCE Pacific Northwest Student Symposium held in Portland, Oregon by building our structure in a timely manner (1 hour) along with a presentation to jurors at the 2025 ASCE Pacific Northwest Student Symposium.
The club is backed by partnerships with the American Wood Council (AWC), Simpson Strong Tie (SST) – will be our main source for hardware, and The Engineering Wood Association (APA). Rules for the competition are included here.
Joining this club will be a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with various toolsets and equipment. Whether well versed in construction or a beginner, all are welcome to join 🙂
Here is the link that will take you to either becoming a member or submit an application to become a lead.
If you want to become a lead, we are looking for leads in the following areas:
