Dear CEE undergrads,
We’re reaching out to let you know about a change we’re making to our UW CEE Professional Master’s Program admissions process that may affect current CEE seniors who are interested in applying.
The admission process to the University of Washington Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Professional Master’s Program has recently been streamlined and made automatic for selected, highly qualified, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering majors. To qualify for this special admission track, students must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher for the last two years, calculated on the first day of the first quarter of their senior year (and maintain this GPA throughout senior year). The new path is called the “4 + graduate program”.
Professional Master’s Program in CEE:
To be automatically accepted to the Professional Master’s Program in CEE, you need only to complete a simple application that is available online at https://www.ce.washington.edu/future/grad/how. Follow the steps described below:
- Enter only required information and upload only required documents. Disregard all non-required/optional entries and steps. For example, you do not need to provide names for letter writers, upload a resume/CV or respond to the statement of purpose prompts.
- Instead of providing a detailed statement of purpose as indicated online at https://www.ce.washington.edu/future/grad/how, please write “Applying through the 4 + graduate program”. Indicate your area of interest (i.e., Environmental Engineering; Hydrology and Hydrodynamics; Structural Engineering and Mechanics; Transportation Engineering; Construction, Energy and Sustainable Infrastructure; Geotechnical Engineering. More details for each area can be found at https://www.ce.washington.edu/research/areas)
- Provide an unofficial copy of your UW transcripts and enter your GPA from the past two years of study.
The deadline for application to the Professional Master’s Program is September 1, 2025 but if you apply by May 1, 2025 your application fee ($85) will be waived. To have your application fee waived, once your application is complete (but before you pay the fee to submit), please email ceginfo@uw.edu with your name and application number, so that the Department can pay the fee for you.
Students that do not meet the “4+ graduate program” can still apply to the Professional Master’s Program but will need to submit their complete application (including all required and optional documents) by September 1, 2024. Admission will be offered on a case-by-case basis.
If you have questions about this, please reach out to the CEE Graduate Advising Office at ceginfo@uw.edu.
