CEE Seminar: climate change and landslides

Dear UW community,

The Environmental and Water Program seminar series offered by the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) department will resume this Thursday (01/09) at 3:30 in More 230.

Speakers this quarter will address the 4 grand challenges outlined in our CEE strategic plan in relation to their research.

Seminar abstract for this week is:

How will climate change impact landslides in the Cascades?: Knowns, unknowns, and uncertainties.

Erkan Istanbulluoglu, CEE

In snow-dominated mountain-belts, understanding how hydrology and landslide rates will respond to climate change requires the integration of climate science, hydrology, and geology. This talk will explore predicted changes in future landslide hazards in the North Cascades of Washington using a suite of models. Model limitations and future research needs will be discussed in a holistic perspective that integrates earth and environmental science with engineering methods.

I hope to see you there.
