Summary
Entry-level Engineering Intern to work under the direct supervision of an experienced licensed Professional Engineer to support the research, design, construction and management of new capital building projects located on land and in the waterfront marine environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include but not limited to:
- Be a role model in projecting and applying The Pacific Group Diamond Philosophy (Productivity, Quality, Excellence and Teamwork) and promote teamwork at all times.
- Obtain detailed work assignments from the Project Manager requiring in-depth analysis.
- Design and draw concepts and final designs for production and implementation into construction projects.
- Computer aided engineering analysis using proprietary computer programs
- Develop spreadsheets and written documents using MS Excel and Word, respectively.
- Interpret IBC and pertinent adopted material code requirements into the design documents.
- Shop drawing production and/or detailed review of shop drawings prepared by others for inclusion into construction.
- Organize and plan work to produce assignments timely and accurately as requested
- Conduct product and equipment research and organize research into presentable form for review by other team members and managers.
- Seek continuous improvement for operational excellence
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to successfully perform the job.
- Education and/or Experience
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis) from an ABET Accredited Institution.
Preferred:
- Minimum core curriculum shall include: Introduction to Surveying; Statics; Dynamics Mechanics of Materials; Structural Analysis; Introduction to Geotechnical Engineering; Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Design; Steel Design; Concrete Design; Wood Design; and Foundation Design.
- Previous construction field or estimating experience is a plus as is any summer cooperative work experience directly related to this position.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
- Proficiency using AutoCAD to produce plan drawings and detailed designs of civil and structural infrastructure components typically associated with building projects as well as the layout of process equipment and procedures as directed by experienced personnel from their respective departments
- Valid Oregon Driver License in good standing is required.
- Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT)
- Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Required
- Strong Computer skills in MS Office, primarily Word and Excel
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1 Welding Procedures; Principles of Seismic Engineering; Structural Analysis and Compliant Detailed Design of Steel and Concrete Framing Systems as well as the ability to evaluate existing wood structures
- Interest and knowledge in Marine Structures and Deep Foundations
- Building Information Modeling (BIM) using Revit Structural
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
