Natural Systems Design has a short-term, seasonal staffing need for habitat surveyors and snorkel surveyors for this year and potentially continuing for three years. I am looking for some field help in the near term, and potential for a few years out.
Here are some details on the positions and work:
Field Tech/Intern – Skagit Juvenile Chinook Study
Conduct snorkel surveys and fish habitat measurements in remote locations on the Skagit River to assess use by juvenile Chinook. Project involves snorkeling in off-channel and side-channel areas, as well as backwaters in the mainstem Skagit late summer, winter (night snorkels), and spring. Must be comfortable wearing a dry suit for extended periods and snorkeling while collecting data. Fish identification skills are preferred, but training and calibration will be provided. Work season is 2-3 weeks in late Aug/early Sept 2020, 2-3 weeks in winter 2020, and 2-3 weeks in spring 2021, 10-12 hour days. Work sites will be along the Skagit River and may be remote, so camping may be required for access. Applicants should be able to carry 50 lbs. over rough terrain and be willing to participate in night snorkeling. Compensation: $20/hour
Field Crew Lead – Skagit Juvenile Chinook Study
Lead a crew conducting snorkel surveys and fish habitat measurements in remote locations on the Skagit River to assess use by juvenile Chinook. Previous experience leading field crews, or supervising instream survey work required. Project involves snorkeling in off-channel and side-channel areas, as well as backwaters in the mainstem Skagit late summer, winter (night snorkels), and spring. Must be comfortable wearing a dry suit for extended periods and snorkeling while collecting data. Fish identification experience required. Work season is 2-3 weeks in late Aug/early Sept 2020, 2-3 weeks in winter 2020, and 2-3 weeks in spring 2021, 10-12 hour days. Study scheduled to repeat surveys in 2021 and 2022 as well. Work sites will be along the Skagit River and may be remote, so camping may be required for access. Applicants should be able to carry 50 lbs. over rough terrain and be willing to participate in night snorkeling. Applicants should be detail oriented, have excellent communication skills and maintain crew safety as first priority. Advanced first aid training, life guard training, or swift water rescue training is a plus. Compensation: $35/hour
