The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, located on the first floor of the Atmospheric Sciences building (ATG) on UW Seattle campus is looking for an Electronics Shop Student. This is a part time position with flexible hours.

The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network is the regional seismic network for Washington and Oregon and maintains 500+ seismic stations in the region. As such, there is a lot of electronics shop work, field work, and data work that needs to be done to install new stations and maintain and monitor current stations. This is a part time position located in the Atmospheric Sciences building on UW Seattle Campus. It has flexible hours and the option to work full-time during the summer. The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network is the authoritative seismic network for Washington and
Oregon state. Our primary objectives are to monitor regional earthquakes, maintain 500+ seismic stations throughout the region, and provide quality seismic data for the public and scientists around the world.

The PNSN is seeking a motivated undergraduate to work with our field engineering team. This team is responsible for seismic equipment maintenance, testing, deployment and monitoring. Typical duties range from hands on work in the Seismology Lab and seismic field sites to documentation of seismic information and networking architecture. Duties will be performed at PNSN/ UW and in the field.

Desired Skills (We can teach these as needed)
• Basic computer science knowledge (excel
unix, etc.)
• Familiarity with multimeter and basic electronics
• Familiarity with circuit diagrams
• Familiarity with CAD software
• Basic earth science understanding
• Willingness to work outdoors
• Likes to have fun! We can’t teach you this
• Ability to work individually and as part of a
team
