The Emil and Kathleen Sick Series in Western History and Biography features scholarly and general-interest books on the peoples and issues that have defined and shaped the North American West. Published by the University of Washington Press in association with the Center for the Study of the Pacific Northwest, the series seeks to deepen and expand our understanding of the West as a region and its role in the making of the United States and the modern world. We have a particular interest in publishing work that addresses the themes of race, gender, environment, and colonialism, as well as books that place the region in transnational and comparative contexts.
