BITE BLOCK
Our novel and unique bite block design was showcased at:
Hollomon Health Innovation Challenge Prototype Funding UW Foster School of Business – March 2018
Engineering Innovation in Health (EIH) Showcase
UW College of Engineering – May 2018
CoMotion Innovators Showcase
UW School of Medicine 15th Annual Inventor of the Year Event – October 2018
Our team completed the EIH Program in June of 2018 and received the CoMotion Innovation Gap Fund grant in January of 2019 to conduct a clinical evaluation at the University of Washington Medical Center. Our research engineer, Sai Krishna Madhavaram, incorporated innovative design features and materials into a novel bite block design (a single-use medical device that keeps the patient’s mouth open and protects the imaging probe from being damaged during invasive imaging procedures). After obtaining Institutional Review Board approval, our team began evaluating the use of novel bite block design in transesophageal echocardiography exams. The team completed the clinical evaluation in 2020. We plan to raise additional funds to continue to commercialize our bite block design.
