The Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center was opened in 1989 as a result of the generosity of the Bloedel family. Local philanthropist Prentice Bloedel chose to fund a scientific group at the University of Washington to specializing in hearing related disorders to honor his wife Virginia Merrill Bloedel, whose life was significantly impacted by hearing loss. At his request the Center bears her name; to honor his generous sponsorship we have hosted a series of symposia in his name – this year’s will be the third.
