Resource Instructions
Below are some frequently accessed resources that we get questions about when working from home or from non-AMC computers (such as a personal device or one owned by your department). If you don’t see a resource in the list please contact our helpdesk for guidance.
All desktops and laptops used for work need to be password protected and encrypted. For help determining if this is complete please review our Data Stewardship resources or contact our helpdesk.
Pulse Secure (Encrypted Access)

Many of the medical center systems are only accessable from trusted locations. Pulse Secure facilitates access to these resources when working from non-clinical locations (which includes the UW Wifi). When connected, Pulse Secure encrypts the connection to those resources so they can be accessed safely and can be safely left running in the background while other tasks are completed.
Installing Pulse Secure
- Use your browser to navigate to https://one.uwmedicine.org/sites/its/Networks/… When prompted sign in with your AMC username and password.
- Choose the software version for your type of computer. Proceed with downloading and installing the software. Once its installed open it.
- Click on the “Plus” icon to add a connection. Then enter a connection name (such as UW Medicine) and the server address.
- HMC, UWMC, UWP, UWPN Employees: https://sslvpn.medical.washington.edu
- Northwest Hospital Employees: https://nwhsslvpn.medical.washington.edu
Remote Desktop to AMC workstation

Prerequisite: before starting you will need to know the name of your AMC computer and be authorized for remote desktop. If you do not know either of those things you may need contact UW Medicine IT via mcsos@uw.edu or 206-543-7012
User Instructions
The following are instructions for remoting into an AMC desktop from a Windows or Mac device.
- Open and connect to Pulse Secure. If you’re not familiar with Pulse Secure see the related resource instructions elsewhere on this page. When prompted enter your AMC username and password.
- Open Remote Desktop Connection, this program is built into Windows systems. If working from a Mac, its called Microsoft Desktop Connection 10 in the App Store.
- On Windows: Click on more settings
On Macs: Click on Add Connection - Enter your Computer Name enter the name of your AMC desktop as “your_computername.amc.uwmedicine.org”. If you do not know this you will need to contact UW Medicine via 206-543-7012.
- On Windows: Enter your username enter it as “amc\your_username”.
On Macs: Choose “Add User Account…” from the User account dropdown menu. Enter your username as “amc\your_username”. Leave all other fields blank. - On Windows: Click save as, choose a destination and name that is easy to find in the future
On Macs: Close the settings window. - Click on Connect to be connected to your work desktop, you may be prompted with a certificate warning. Click ok, to proceed anyway.
Orca/Epic

Method 1
For access to your standard work environment, including ORCA and EPIC it may be helpful to use the instructions above in the section titled ‘Remote Desktop to AMC workstation’
Method 2
If only need access to ORCA or EPIC you can do so using the instructions below. Pulse Secure is not required for this step but can optionally be left running if needed for other simultaneous tasks.
Prerequisite: if you have not yet been authorized for ORCA or EPIC you should first contact UW Medicine IT for your AMC account to be authorized, via email mcsos@uw.edu or via phone 206-543-7012.
The following instructions work for Windows and Mac OS.
- Use your browser to navigate to https://www.citrix.com/downloads/workspace-app/.
- Choose the software version for your type of computer. Proceed with downloading and installing the software.
- Once installed you can use your browser to visit the Citrix Web Access site: https://access.uwmedicine.org
- When prompted sign in with your AMC credentials, if you’re not sure what that is you can contact UW Medicine IT via 206-543-7012.
- Click and open individual apps to launch them using Citrix Workspace:
Network drives Lapis or Hemmingway

Method 1
For access to your standard work environment, including mapped network drives it may be helpful to use the instructions above in the section titled ‘Remote Desktop to AMC workstation’ this is also more secure since it leaves your work files in their normal location.
Method 2
For directions on mapping a drive on a new computer at home follow the instrictions below.
Prerequisite: All computers used for work purposes need to be password protected and encrypted. For help ensuring that this is configured correctly please review our Data Stewardship resources or contact our helpdesk. When you are ready to be connected you will need to know the full path to the network folder and be authorized for accessing the target folder. If you do not know either of those things you may need to ask a colleague or contact UW Medicine IT via mcsos@uw.edu or 206-543-7012
If working from an AMC computer in a clinical area you can simply follow the steps below. If working from off site or from a non-AMC (ie departmental or personal) device then first open and connect to Pulse Secure. If you’re not familiar with Pulse Secure see the related resource instructions elsewhere on this page. When prompted enter your AMC username and password.
Windows:
- From This PC, choose Map Network drive
- For the server address enter the folder you want to connect to, for example \\lapis.amc.uwmedicine.org\yourfolder$
- Choose a letter that you like, its not specific.
- Check the box for connect with different credentials.
- Click on Connect and when prompted enter your username (in the format AMC\username) and password
- To find this connection again in the future return to This PC and refer to the drive letter you selected in step 3. If there is a red X on the drive, double check that Pulse is connected and then try opening the drive.
Macs:
- Using Finder, from the menu at the top choose Go, Connect to Server
- Enter the path of the folder you want to connect to, for example smb://lapis.amc.uwmedicine.org/yourfolder$
- Click on Connect and when prompted enter your username (in the format AMC\username) and password
- To find this connection again in the future return to Finder, Go, Connect to server; this time when connecting you will not be prompted since there is already an existing connection. If you are unable to connect, first check that Pulse is connected, then check the spelling of the folder path. For quicker access you can also turn on a preference in Finder to show connected network drives on the desktop.
Xcelera (ISCV)

Method 1
If you have an Xcelera workstation in your office, use the instructions above in the section titled ‘Remote Desktop to AMC workstation’. Then when prompted use the computer name of your Xcelera workstation instead of your standard AMC desktop.
Method 2
The most convenant method of access is the ISCV website. If working from an AMC computer you can simply click on the URL: https://iv-iscv-web.amc.uwmedicine.org/ISCV. If working from off site or from a non-AMC (ie departmental or personal) device then use the steps below.
- Open and connect to Pulse Secure. If you’re not familiar with Pulse Secure see the related resource instructions elsewhere on this page. When prompted enter your AMC username and password.
- Once Pulse Secure is connected, using your browser navigate to https://iv-iscv-web.amc.uwmedicine.org/ISCV
Radiology PACS

Method 1
The most convenant method of access to the Radiology PACS data is through EPIC or ORCA. If you need to access only the images outside of EPIC or ORCA use method 2 below.
Method 2
- Open and connect to Pulse Secure. If you’re not familiar with Pulse Secure see the related resource instructions elsewhere on this page. When prompted enter your AMC username and password.
- Once Pulse Secure is connected, using your browser navigate to https://pacsweb.uwmedicine.org/
Dragon Medical One (DMO)

Dragon Medical One is a medical dictation software that is now built into ORCA and EPIC. Access to Dragon Medical One allows for medical dication from your work computer or home computer. No software purchase is necessary however you will need to download and install an app to your smartphone to use as the dictation device, the app is free and works on iOS and Android.
Note: DMO will only work in Epic and ORCA at this time. Use with desktop apps like Soarian, Outlook, and Word is currently unavailable, but in the works. For an updated status on this please email mcsos@uw.edu.
Setting up your smartphone
- Download and open the “PowerMic Mobile” app on your phone (Apple App Store or Google Play Store)
- If prompted, approve access to the phone microphone and accept user agreements
- To add a profile, on phone browser, visit http://dragonsetup.zeroto60.org
- Tap the hyperlink for your phone type (iOS or Android)
- The hyperlink should open the PowerMic Mobile app and automatically configure your phone to the UW instance of DMO. The app should show “Profile 1″ and “Enter User Name”. You are now done with configuring your smartphone.
Log in to DMO through Epic or ORCA on your Workstation or Home Computer

- Epic: In the Epic Toolbar, click “DMO Login”
- ORCA (PowerChart or FirstNet)
- In the ORCA toolbar, click “View” and select “Links and Reports”
- Under the “Other Reports” section, click on “Dragon Medical One (DMO) Launch”
Verify Settings to Login
- User: Enter your UW Medicine AMC Username
- Microphone: Make sure “Nuance PowerMic Mobile” is selected (likely not selected by default the first time you set this up)
- Specialty: Select as appropriate or “General Medicine” for unlisted specialties
- If the computer asks for permission to use your microphone and webcam, you can select “No” or “Block access”
Once you have successfully logged in, the DragonBar will display on your computer screen.
Launch PowerMic Mobile app on your phone
- Login using your DMO username (UW Medicine AMC username) – no password required
- Once logged in, pairing will occur automatically between your computer and phone
- Once paired, the orange icon on the DragonBar will turn red
Icon Color Key:- Orange = Not Connected
- Red = Connected, Mic is Off (not listening)
- Green = Connected, Mic is On (listening)
Note: Spinning motion around Green Icon = Dragon is processing what you are saying
Start Recording
Tap the microphone icon on your phone to start and stop recording.
Remember: Speak in a natural tone and rhythm and be sure to say all desired punctuation.
Once done using Dragon, be sure to Exit by clicking the “blue flame”
