Summer Shorts: NO

For entry into the Animal Vivarium, it is imperative that appropriate attire be worn.

Shorts and open-toed shoes are strictly prohibited due to safety considerations for all individuals present within the vivarium.

Adherence to these guidelines is crucial to maintaining a safe environment. Failure to comply may result in the denial of access to the facility.

Special Service Requests (SSRs)

To reduce back-and-forth questions between a lab requesting an SSR and the facility supervisors be sure to view the newest eLesson Husbandry Special Service Requests.

The Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) has developed an intelligent SSR Request web-form to make it easier.

Remember:

Keep the instructions simple and concise to actions that need to be performed.

DCM needs at least 2 working days for an SSR to initiate.

SSRs must be renewed every 90 days.

Dare 2 Care: Compassion in Science 2nd Annual Commemoration
August 28th, 11:00am-1:00pm

We are proud to introduce D2C’s Second Annual Commemoration’s Keynote Speaker, Scott Imbrie.

Scott was pronounced quadriplegic after breaking his neck in a car accident at age 22. He now spends 3 days a week at the University of Chicago participating in the Brain Computer Interface (BCI) study. With brain implants, Scott can control a robotic arm and hand with sensory feedback using only the thoughts in his brain.

Scott will share his perception of sensations, motor functions and movement after his life-changing surgery and his thoughts and unique experiences as a participant of BCI studies. His story will inspire you, exemplifying why animal research and their researchers are important.

We will be joined by special guest Dr. Cindy Buckmaster.

EH&S has recently updated its Anesthetic Gases: Safe Use Guidelines. Changes to the document include:

Updated exposure limits that EH&S references for monitoring.
Environmental impacts of anesthetic gases and considerations for reduction.
Recommendations for the use of key fill bottle adaptors for liquid anesthetics.
Clarifications to training requirements and expectations.
