Facility Orientation Classes

Below is a list of the in-person training courses that we offer. Click the course title to learn about prerequisites, description, and schedules.

Prior to attending an any facility orientation you will need an access badge/card to add access to.  To learn about badges and cards view Physical UW Badges.

Animal Facility Orientation Registration Form

Prerequisites

  • Approval on IACUC protocol.
  • Complete all lessons within Animal Facility Online Course.
  • Rodent users must complete the online Annual DCM Facility Access Training (Rodent) course.
  • Non-Rodent users must complete the Annual DCM Facility Access Training (Non-Rodent) course.
  • Score 100% on Annual DCM Facility Access Training Exam.

Description

Facility Orientation sessions are held inside the Department of Comparative Medicine animal facilities and provide personnel with the training necessary for entering and working in the facility. Instruction is provided on the proper facility and animal room entry procedures, as well as the location of important resources.

Personnel must complete the 6th Floor Facility Orientation in order to gain access to the 6th floor facility.

Note: In order to work in behavior study animal rooms located in the 6th floor facility, personnel must also attend the separate 6th Floor Facility Behavior Room Orientation.

Note: In order to work in Animal Bio-Safety Level 2 (ABSL-2) rooms within the facility, personnel must also attend the separate ABSL-2 Room Orientation.

Prerequisite:

  • Completion of the 6th Floor Facility Orientation.

Description

Facility Orientation sessions are held inside the Department of Comparative Medicine animal facilities and provide personnel with the training necessary for entering and working in the facility. The animal behavior study area of the 6th floor facility functions differently from the rest of the facility. For example, research staff are more involved in the daily care of the animals and room entry procedures vary. Instruction on these variances is provided in the orientation.

Individuals who need to work in an animal behavior study room located in the 6th floor facility must complete the 6th Floor Facility Behavior Room Orientation. Attendance of the 6th Floor Facility Orientation is required prior to attending the 6th Floor Facility Behavior Room Orientation.

Description

Facility Orientation sessions are held inside the Department of Comparative Medicine animal facilities and provide personnel with the training necessary for entering and working in the facility. Instruction is provided on the proper facility and animal room entry procedures, as well as the location of important resources. This orientation is split into two different sections depending on what species personnel are working with in the facility. Personnel working with rodent species should attend the “Rodent User” section and personnel working with non-rodent species should attend the “Non-Rodent User” section.

Personnel must complete the Animal Research and Care (ARC) and Foege Facility Orientation in order to gain access to the facilities.

Note: In order to work in Animal Bio-Safety Level 2 (ABSL-2) rooms within the facility, personnel must also attend the separate ABSL-2 Room Orientation.

Non-Rodent orientations will be offered on an as-needed basis. If you need an ARC Facility for Non-Rodent Users Orientation, please submit your registration form with your availability for the following 2 weeks to schedule an orientation.

Description

In-Person Facility Orientation sessions are held inside the Department of Comparative Medicine animal facilities and provide personnel with the training necessary for entering and working in the facility. You will receive instruction on the location of important resources within the facility, using Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and other eqipment described in the online lessons, as well as hands-on practice.

Personnel must complete the entire Brotman Facility Orientation (online and in-person) in order to gain access to the facility.

Note: In order to work in the Animal Bio-Safety Level 2 (ABSL-2) room within the facility, personnel must also attend the separate ABSL-2 Room Orientation.

Description

Individuals who need to work in an Animal Bio-Safety Level 2 (ABSL-2) room within a Department of Comparative Medicine animal facility must complete the ABSL-2 Room Orientation for that facility. Attendance of the Facility Orientation is required prior to attending the ABSL-2 Room Orientation.

Description

Individuals who need to work in an Animal Bio-Safety Level 3 (ABSL-3) room within a Department of Comparative Medicine animal facility must complete the ABSL-3 Room Orientation.

Animal Facility Orientation Registration Form

Description

Individuals who need to work in the Gnotobiotic Animal Core (GNAC) within a Department of Comparative Medicine animal facility must complete the GNAC Orientation. Attendance of the Facility Orientation is required prior to attending the GNAC Orientation.

These orientations are currently scheduled for the 15th of every month at 1:00 PM (if the 15th is a Saturday it will occur on Friday, if it is a Sunday it will occur on Monday).

You must register in advance and receive a registration confirmation to attend this orientation.
