Protocols

IACUC approval, in the form of an IACUC protocol, is required prior to any use of vertebrate animals or cephalopods in research, teaching, or testing at the University of Washington, whether in the field or on campus. Refer to the

titled “IACUC Protocol Requirements” for additional information about why and in what circumstances a protocol is required.

New protocols, amendments to existing protocols, and triennial reviews, are created, submitted, and reviewed within our electronic protocol management system, HoverBoard.

All personnel who work with animals should be trained on how to review the approved protocol in HoverBoard. The approved IACUC protocol should be checked prior to initiating any study to ensure that the planned work is consistent with the approved protocol, or determine if an amendment is required. An e-lesson is available titled “Check your Approved Protocol”. Your OAW liaison can also provide

training. OAW is also offering Hoverboard Office Hours to answer Hoverboard related questions live.
