October is National Biosafety Month: Wear a Lab Coat to Protect YourselfDuring National Biosafety Month, labs should focus on the importance of wearing lab coats to protect your skin and clothes from hazards in the lab. The newest UW Biosafety Manual will be released soon and will include a requirement to wear a lab coat when working with biohazards at any biosafety level. Remember to wear a lab coat in addition to appropriate laboratory clothing—long pants or skirts that cover the legs and closed-toe shoes that cover the feet. |

Someone to Talk ToD2C Committee Members have volunteered to lend an empathetic ear when you need it. Though our volunteers are not mental health specialists, studies have shown that simply talking about our problems and sharing our negative emotions with a colleague, or someone we trust, can be profoundly healing—reducing stress, strengthening our immune system, and reducing physical and emotional distress (Pennebaker, Kiecolt-Glaser, & Glaser, 1988). There are several members of the D2C you can reach out to if you need to talk. Read the full article on Someone To Talk To by Rita Bellanca, D2C Vice-Chair. |
