COVID-19 PREVENTION
General information: We are following state and University guidelines for in-person gatherings, including the University’s Face Covering Policy. Event attendees are required to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and must stay home if symptomatic or if instructed to isolate or quarantine by a public health professional. We will communicate any changes to the plan if they become necessary.
The UW encourages all to activate the Washington Exposure Notifications – WA Notify app prior to attending the event.
UW Vaccination Policy. Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways you can protect yourself and your family against COVID-19 and will be required for students, staff, and faculty at the UW this autumn. Vaccination rates for students and personnel who have completed their UW vaccination attestation are well above 90%. Event attendees who are not already vaccinated and do not have a medical or religious exemption are encouraged to make plans to get vaccinated asap. UW Medicine offers appointments at their primary care clinics throughout the region. You do not have to be a current UW Medicine patient to schedule an appointment. Event attendees who are not fully vaccinated by the event date are encouraged to get a COVID-19 viral polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test taken within 72 hours before the event for proof of a negative test result.
For all venues and activities: Everyone must wear a face covering that fits snugly against the sides of the face and completely covers the nose and mouth, regardless of vaccination status. Please respect others’ personal space. Practice good hand hygiene. We will provide liquid (not gel!) hand sanitizer; you are encouraged to bring your own. Restrooms are nearby for hand washing. Cleaning products (disinfectants and wipes) will be on site to clean high-touch areas.
Symposium (KNE 120): The lecture hall has 440 seats, so we expect there to be room for social distancing. Everyone must wear a face covering that fits snugly against the sides of the face and completely covers the nose and mouth, at all times during the Symposium presentations, regardless of vaccination status. Food and drink are not permitted in the lecture hall.
Coffee breaks (KNE 225): The UW Face Covering Policy allows individuals to unmask when actively eating and drinking in appropriate places. Minimize the time your face covering is removed and minimize socializing while unmasked. Socially distance as you are able. We will open exterior doors to aid ventilation and attendees are welcome to use the outdoor balconies accessible from the Walker-Ames room (KNE 225). The buffet tables will be accessible from all sides in order to minimize crowding. Coffee, hot tea, iced tea, and iced water will be available along with cookies and individually wrapped servings of potato chips and popcorn. You are welcome to bring your own drink bottle and snack for consumption during the break times. (Food and drink are not permitted in the lecture hall during the symposium.)
Poster Session and Reception (Burke Museum):
Minimize the time your face covering is removed and minimize socializing while unmasked. Socially distance as you are able. Assorted soft drinks, beer, and wine will be served by a licensed bartender. A cheese board with crackers, crudites, and dessert bars will be available on the buffet.
Banquet (Burke Museum):
Tables will be assigned and limited to 6 guests. Tables will be set throughout the room with as much distance as possible between them. Minimize the time your face covering is removed and minimize socializing while unmasked.
