Library FAQ
Q: How do I get a library card?
A: We don’t have physical library cards (yet), but you can apply for a library account in person at our front desk, or here on our website.
Q: How long can I check books out?
A: Books check out for 21 days (3 weeks). Reference items cannot be checked out.
Q: How many books can I have checked out at one time?
A: Patrons can check out up to 5 items.
Q: Can I renew books?
A: All items can be renewed up to 2 times. Renewals have to be done in person at the Q Center.
Q: How do I place a hold?
A: We’re not allowing holds at this time due to space and staffing constraints. Please do not place holds through your Librarika account!
Q: Does the library have fines?
A: We never charge late fees! However, if an item is lost or severely damaged, we may ask the patron responsible to pay for a replacement.
Q: Do you have eBooks or audiobooks?
A: We are not offering eBooks or audiobooks at this time due to budget constraints.
Q: Why can’t I check out zines?
A: Zines are part of our reference collection. Reference items are only to be used on-site inside the library. Items in our reference collection are rare and/or fragile and are kept in the library to help preserve them for years to come.
Q: Why do I need my UW ID to check out books?
A: To protect patron privacy and prevent fraudulent account use, we need to verify your identity every time you check out an item from the library. If and when the library begins to use physical library cards, we may be able to relax this requirement.
