Space Policy FAQ

Why does the Q Center have these requirements?

We care about the health and safety of all our community members, including those who are immunocompromised and disabled. Until all LGBTQ2IA+ folks are able to more safely gather indoors, we are doing what we can to keep community safe.

The “at capacity” sign is on the door and I have an appointment.  What should I do?

If you have an appointment to meet with Q Center staff, feel welcome to wait outside the space and a staff member will look for you in the hallway or in one of the second floor lounge areas.  We will honor your appointment time and be right with you!

Is the Q Center still virtual as well as in person?

Yes!  Our virtual offerings include:

  • Drop-in Advising
  • Drop-in groups such as Color Mode, Gender Discussion Group
  • Hangout space in our Discord server
  • Safer sex supplies and menstrual products by mail
  • Resource Repository with scholarships, community resources and more
  • Our social media platforms give the latest Q Center news

I dropped by for safer sex supplies and I need them ASAP!  What should I do?

The Q Center space is open to the public Monday-Tuesday, 10am-6pm and Thursday-Friday, 10am-6pm. Wednesdays are staff planning days in which some staff may be available on-site, but usually we will be working remotely. If you need safer sex supplies outside of these hours of operation, please submit a request to Hall Health for them to be mailed directly to your residence:

https://wellbeing.uw.edu/medical/sexual-health/safer-sex-supplies-by-mail/

You may also coordinate a pick-up time with the Q Center–within our regular hours– by emailing us at qcenter@uw.edu. Use the line “safer sex supply request” in the subject so we’re able to respond effectively.

I can’t wear a mask for health reasons. How can I engage with the Q Center?

Masking is no longer required or mandated indoors at the University. You are welcome to be in the space unmasked and join any events, programs, or drop-ins without a mask. Some Q Center staff and students may choose to continue masking for their own safety, please be respectful of everyone’s bodily autonomy and decision making therein.

The Q Center community is both available in the physical space and online!  We offer virtual services and community-building opportunities such as drop-in advising, community groups such as Gender Discussion Group and Color Mode, and virtual events through our Discord server.

I did the UW attestation and I am vaccinated, and am following UW policies.  Why is the Q Center recommending mask wearing?

Currently the Q Center is continuing to distance and mask because we believe it’s what we can do in our center to keep everyone as safe as possible.
