Tateuchi East Asia Library: News and Projects

Tateuchi Projects at UW Libraries

With deep gratitude, we are delighted to announce that the Tateuchi East Asia Library (TEAL) has received a generous grant in the amount of $189,600 from the Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi Foundation in support of TEAL’s current projects over three years starting September 2019 through the 2021 fiscal year. This website serves as an introduction to the five projects the grant supports:

Focusing on objectives set out in the UW Libraries 2018-2023 Strategic Plan, these projects will significantly enrich our students’ experience, accelerate scholarship and learning through responsive collections, and enable us to grow as a learning organization. On behalf of  the Tateuchi East Asia Library and its users, we express our heartfelt appreciation to the Tateuchi Foundation for its unwavering support.

Thanks to the Foundation’s generosity, over the past decade TEAL has been able to accomplish many transformational projects, such as clearing our decades-old Japanese cataloging backlog, in turn inspiring support from other grants and community donations to eliminate our historical Korean cataloging backlog and to reduce significantly our historical Chinese backlog.

The current grant supports five important projects, most notably an assessment and redesign of our library space to meet the demands of 21st century teaching, learning, and research at the University. We will work with colleagues across the UW Libraries and partners across the Pacific to complete these projects.
