Feb 15th, 12:30 – 1:20pm – Mobile Cities: Examining Non-Motorized Mobility Equity in Beacon Hill, Seattle – Talk by Rachel Berney, PhD, Associate Professor, UW, Seminar via Zoom

Prof. Berney’s Abstract: Despite policy and programs supporting more equitable mobility strategies, Seattle, WA, remains challenged by inequitable conditions in neighborhoods. Using the mobility justice framework from People for Mobility Justice as a framework, I present a synthesized overview of results from several research investigations: the UW PHI-funded PATHSS study, URBDP 576-CET 586 2021 team projects, and a Urban@UW-funded analysis of the SDOT Stay Healthy Street survey data. We use a mixed-methods approach to capture the current state of non-motorized mobility in a south Seattle neighborhood. We find that conditions are poor in most areas studied. Based on these findings, I suggest possible next steps for research.
