Bring questions about sharing research and engaging with communities to:
Open Scholar Cafe
The Library is partnering with the Office of Community Partnerships (OCP) to co-host a drop-in space for faculty and staff authors to discuss engaged scholarship, publishing, open access, and the tools available to share work.
At this session, we will introduce the Open and Engaged Scholar Program and share how faculty can participate in this effort to make their published work available to wider communities and audiences. Afterward, we will have a discussion about how open scholarship frameworks and digital technologies can be leveraged for community-engaged research and teaching and the support you can get in the Library.
We will not be recording this session, but if this time doesn’t work, please reach out to Justin Wadland, Head, Digital Scholarship, to set up a one-on-one meeting.

What is Open Scholar Cafe?
It a space to drop-in and talk about the tools, resources, and policies researchers, educators, and authors can use to make your work publicly available. We’re happy to discuss any questions your bring. We see this as an opportunity to put a face to the services the Library provides, including:
- Quarterly listing of publications and research awards
- UW Tacoma Digital Commons, the campus institutional repository
- UW Tacoma author gallery
What are topics that might come up at Open Scholar Cafe?
- Options for sharing scholarly work through Open Access
- UW Open Access (OA) Policy
- Creating and/or updating a profile
- Uploading your scholarship to our institutional repository, UW Tacoma Digital Commons
- ORCID IDs
- Creating collections featuring student work
- Scholarly publishing questions
- Digital infrastructures that support open and digital scholarship at UW
And to the most important question: Will there be donuts?
We are sad to say that for the safety of others, we are hosting this even online, and thus, no donuts at the event. But a poll will be shared among for a good time to identify the best “Drop-in Donut for Scholars” days at the Office of Community Partnerships later in the quarter.
