Meet our Staff: Megan Elizabeth Gregory

Dark haired woman, smiling, in front of a library bookshelf.
The amazing Megan Elizabeth Gregory has accepted the Learning Commons and Access Services Manager position with the UW Tacoma Library! Megan has been with the UW Tacoma Library for 13 years starting as a student employee in Access Services while she worked on her undergraduate degree in Psychology. She volunteered as a docent in Research Help and transitioned as a temporary technician. Her most recent position was Collection Support Supervisor.

Megan was drawn to libraries through her work as a page in her high school library, Rogers High School, and volunteered as a reading tutor in the Puyallup School District. “Working in your college library is the best job you can have as a full-time student, especially if you’re first-gen,” Megan says. “It ties you to campus, and lets you work and study in an environment that supports your educational goals.”

Born in Tacoma and raised in Puyallup – UW Tacoma feels like home. With the support from a single working mother, she could attend school as a first generation student in a city that is affordable for a quality education. Through working here she felt the same love for this city and UW Tacoma that our staff, students, faculty, and community do. “Tacoma has soul.”

In her free time, there’s lots of reading and cuddles with her little one, and occasionally performing in theatre. “Go see a live show, especially if you have a chance to check out Tacoma Little Theatre!” She just finished reading A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair, “If you want a little Persephone and Hades romance in your life, this is the book for you.” She’s looking forward to the upcoming season of Succession. “It’s Shakespeare with billionaires!” If you’re more of a fan of video games, you can check out Megan’s favorite one here. “Some folks don’t know they can check out video games through the library, and we all need a break from school and work sometimes.”

In her time with the UW Tacoma Library, she has grown as a leader and is ready to take on this new challenge. She’s had so much fun in her various positions within the library that she is excited to hand her work off so that others can shine in those roles and to provide support for the work they do. “Making sure the staff and students in our library feel cared for and have a sense of warmth when they visit is a goal I share with the rest of our staff. We strive to be a welcoming third place for everyone who enters our doors.”

Megan’s official start date is January 19.
