Mental Health for All is the newest display at the UW Tacoma Library, just in time for Mental Health Awareness Month, which has been celebrated in the U.S. each May since 1949. Created by UW iSchool MLIS students who work as reference specialists at the UW Tacoma Library, the display aims to further awareness of the importance of mental health and de-stigmatize mental illness.
Floral and pastel inspired posters accompany a wide selection of books, as do colorful bookmarks and signage featuring QR codes linked to relevant articles, videos and on- and off-campus support resources. In addition to advocating for people to prioritize their own mental health, the display encourages folks to care for those around them.
Students, staff and community members can check out books ranging from children’s picture books and young adult fiction to graphic novels and nonfiction titles covering trauma, loss, anxiety, intersectional mental health and more. By connecting people with valuable resources and tools, the UW Tacoma Library graduate students hope to help cultivate meaningful discussions and uplift mental health for all.
The display is located on the first floor of the Snoqualmie Building (SNO), near the circulation desk, and will run through Jun 9th. The UW Tacoma Library invites you to explore our additional mental health titles in both SNO and the Tioga Library Building (TLB) and numerous resources throughout campus. Feel free to check out the books — and be sure to leave us a comment below!
