Don’t Judge a Book
From Khaled Hosseini to Julia Alvarez, our coverless books offer our readers a chance to dive into a book without a cover image. The new display in Snoqualmie is thus… asking readers to not judge a book by it’s cover! The display features 20 different casual reads that range from memoirs to thrillers. Come by and check it out!
New Books
Also in the SNO Lobby are new books purchased for the UW Tacoma Library, purchased by your subject librarians. You can always make an appointment to meet with someone to discuss your research interests or to get support for your course assignments.
Children’s Books about Body Neutrality
Our youngest patrons are always welcome! Pop on by TLB1, and you can also stop by our caregiver-child study carrel to take a break, read a book with the kiddo in your life, and know that they won’t be shushed. Our display about body neutrality takes a look at children’s picture books that view a body as neutral and something to be at peace with.
Fantastically Diverse
The display features incredible fantasy, speculative fiction and science fiction books that center diverse characters. Inspired by Ebony Elizabeth Thomas’s The Dark Fantastic (2019), in which she explores race in popular children’s and young adult fantastical works, we’ve purposefully sought to include books that uplift protagonists of color as well as protagonists of other marginalized groups. Celebrate the magic of young adult literature and accessibility for all teen readers, pick up your favorite YA book. You can even join us in our weekly social justice themed YA book club, Real Lit — we’ve read many of the titles featured as part of the book club!
Climate & Climate Justice
Our display on climate and climate looks at long term shifts in climate and weather patterns — especially global warming — and spotlights the disproportionate impact that climate events have on historically marginalized populations and the Global South. Books by BIPOC climate activists are highlighted. There are also titles for folks who are curious about, well, weather.
