Children Belong Here

If you’ve wandered into the Children’s Area in the Tioga Library Building hopefully you’ve seen shelves stuffed with books. This is mainly because of the Professor Belinda Y. Louie Children’s and Young Adult Literature Library Endowed Collection. This Endowment has also increased our collection of diverse books for the School of Education Students – and our littlest visitors! I’ve taken advantage of this collection myself by finding books for my nightly reads with my son before bedtime.

As a parent its often hard to find spaces that serve my needs as well as my child’s. This isn’t a very child friendly world, but we are a campus of parents and caregivers – students, faculty, and staff.

A picture the parent-child study carrel located in the Tioga Library BuildingNow the Children’s Area is an even brighter, more welcoming space for children and their caregivers, thanks to the generous support in 2022 of donors and a matching contribution from Professor Belinda Louie herself. The Library was able to purchase a beautiful Parent-Child study carrel that was just recently installed in the Children’s Area.

All of this is to say children belong here at the UW Tacoma Library! We hope to see our littlest patrons soon – and you, too!
