Click here to learn more about We’re Listening: Whiteboard Conversations and find out how you can participate! We want to hear from you!
The UWT community has spent the last two weeks writing, on our We’re Listening whiteboard at the SNO 1 entrance, answers to the question:
What are you most excited for this quarter?
We’re so excited to welcome you back, both new and familiar faces, and to hear about what’s bringing you joy and motivation this Fall! Here, we’ve compiled some of your answers alongside suggestions for campus and local resources. Happy Autumn!
Making Friends
Check out the Center for Student Involvement!
Other than in your classes, one of the best ways to make new friends at UWT is to get involved in a club or any other student organization (RSO). Through the Center for Student Involvement, you can find nifty compilations of RSOs via DUBNET, volunteer opportunities, and updates on our Student Government.
Food Truck
Check out the UWT Food Truck Schedule!
Every Tuesday until December 3rd, there will be a food truck parked outside Philip Hall from 11am to 2pm. Keep an eye out on the schedule to get lumpia, pad Thai, paninis, and more!
Changing Leaves
Check out photos of our beautiful Fall campus!
There’s few things prettier than the mosaic of warm colors that paints the Pacific Northwest this time of year, and thankfully the UWT Flickr has an album capturing our lovely campus in Fall 2020.
Rain
Learn about UWT’S rain gardens and stormwater management!
You can spot rain gardens outside Metro Coffee, the Tioga Library Building, and several other spots on campus. Rain gardens are concaved landscapes of well-draining soil and low-maintenance plants, helping prevent flooding and filtering stormwater pollutants.
Food
Check out the UWT Pantry!
Need food assistance? The Pantry is a wonderful resource, acting as food bank providing UWT students with free groceries and hygiene products. Just head on over to WPH 010, check in with your student ID, and take home up to 20 items per week.
Free Gym
Check out the University YMCA Student Center!
Did you know that, as a UWT student, you get access to the YMCA on UWT’s campus? Here you can use cardio and strength training equipment, an indoor track, a basketball court, a rock wall, and more!
Fun Events on Campus
Keep an eye out on our events calendar!
Throughout the year, UWT has regular fun and helpful events focused on socializing, academic help, health and mindfulness, career development, hobbies and more! Keep a regular eye out on our calendar to know what’s coming up.
Paying $4,000
Check out the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships!
As fellow students and graduates, we feel your pain. Thankfully, the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships has a great group of folks ready to help you with any questions or concerns you have regarding tuition, how and when to pay it, and lightening the burden.
Learning
Check out the UW Tacoma Teaching and Learning Center (TLC)!
As librarians, we know how fun it can be to learn! To help that process go smoothly, the TLC provides tutors that can help with writing, math, science, and general academic success such as studying and test-taking strategies.
Halloween Party at the Y
Check out the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties’ Halloween Events!
Throughout Pierce and Kitsap Counties, our local YMCAs will be hosting frightfully fun Halloween events with family activities such as games, crafts, treats, and more!
Makerspace Events
Check out the UWT Library Makerspace!
The Makerspace is an amazing resource where UWT students have access to 3D printing, knitting/crochet, sewing, and more! There will be daily events throughout the quarter such as crafting clubs, sewing classes, and Arduino UNO workshops. Search “Makerspace” in our events calendar to keep up to date!
Math Club
Check out the UWT Mathematics Club on DUBNET!
The Mathematics Club at UWT is a registered student organization and diverse STEM community facilitating interest, connection, and discussion between faculty and students interested in either upper or lower level math.
How to Live
Check out UWT’s Psychological and Wellness Services (PAWS)!
Balancing the things that help you simply survive; work, school, chores, physical health; with the things that help you feel like you’re actively living; hobbies, socializing, mental health; can be exhausting and sometimes almost feel impossible. Know that it isn’t, however, and that we all need help sometimes figuring out how to strike that balance– PAWS is an excellent resource for just that. There, UWT students can receive no-cost confidential mental health counseling, as well as workshops, presentations, referrals, and more.
Lasagna
Request a copy of Garfield’s Sunday Finest!
Excellent portrait of Garfield, my friend. You caught a librarian who loves that cat. Checkout 35 years of his best Sunday (NOT Monday) funnies and read them while you enjoy plenty of lasagna to come.
Snacks
Pop into the new Husky Market!
You can get all sorts of goodies at the new corner store on the first floor of Tacoma Paper & Stationery Building– including snacks, candy, drinks, household essentials, and fresh food from local suppliers like sandwiches, salads, and pastries!
