After a successful quarter in the autumn where a dozen students and staff read and discussed Angie Thomas’ The Hate U Give (and skyped with the author on 12/5/2018!) we are thrilled to continue with our book club at the Library. It is exciting to be able to offer the space for our campus community to engage in conversations about contemporary issues. Research has shown that book clubs enhance community, and that reading fiction increases empathy.
So: come join The Center for Equity and Inclusion and the UW Tacoma Library in meeting Winter Quarter to discuss Dashka Slater’s book, The 57 Bus. We will meet in the Chihuly Room in Snoqualmie every other Thursday, 12:30-1:20PM. All are welcome!
The novel — chosen by student members of Real Lit Autumn 2018 — addresses hate crime, gender identity, and incarceration, and is based on a true story. It has won several awards already, including the Stonewall Book Award!
Students have first dibs at a free copy of the book.
