Officer Spotlight – Grace

Grace Kim, Sophomore Cohort Rep

We’d like to introduce you to Grace Kim, UW at BMES’s sophomore cohort representative! As the only sophomore member of our organization, Grace plays an important role in connecting her class with our program. If you’re a sophomore, make sure to stay up to date with all she has planned this quarter!

Outside of BMES, Grace does research in the Kueh Lab and IGEM. She is mainly interested in immunology and its applications of personalized medicine, but also finds food science and environmental science intriguing.

Fun facts:

  1. She has played the violin and piano for fifteen years and has been the concertmaster of several orchestras, including the Bellevue Youth Symphony. Her favorite pieces to perform are the SIbelius Violin Concerto and Chopin’s Ballade no. 2 in F major.
  2. There is about a 2/3 chance someone will tell her she has big eyes the first time they meet her.
  3. She has watched over 5000 episodes of anime and put it on her college apps.
  4. Her first job was a data analysis internship at Boeing in high school.

It’s Frances, not Francis, which is the male version of the name. Fun fact: Charles Darwin had a son named Francis who had a daughter named Frances. Francis’s daughter Frances was a poet who married a poet named Francis. (Oh, the things Wikipedia can teach you.)
