Fall Quarter Innovation Courses

This fall, the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship is offering two innovation courses: the Environmental Innovation Practicum and the Health Innovation Practicum. You will hear fantastic leading-edge speakers, work on idea generation for changes that will make a difference in the environment or in healthcare, then roll up your sleeves and work on cross-disciplinary teams to figure out how to make your ideas a reality. These courses are for grads and undergrads from all majors.

Environmental Innovation Practicum

Fall Quarter | 2 credits | Tuesdays, 4-5:50 p.m. | PACCAR Hall 290

Prerequisites: None. Recommended for juniors, seniors, and graduate students.

About: The goal of this Practicum is to help students discover how cleantech solutions are addressing pressing environmental issues, and learn how they can be part of those solutions. In this class you will:

  • Gain awareness of the challenges and how businesses are tackling them.
  • Learn from subject matter experts about solutions emerging in various industries.
  • Evaluate business opportunities in cleantech as outlined by guest speakers, required readings and world news.
  • Gain hands-on experience in developing business solution concepts addressing environmental challenges.

Health Innovation Practicum

Fall Quarter | 2 credits | Thursdays, 4-6 p.m. | PACCAR Hall 392

About: The goal of this seminar is to help students innovate and create solutions to the toughest health challenges we face –on a domestic or global scale. Students will form cross-disciplinary teams around project concepts chosen by the class and present the team’s solutions to classmates and a panel of expert judges who will score the presentations. Although not required, teams are invited and encouraged to go beyond the class to compete in the 2017 Health Innovation Challenge. In this class you will:

  • Understand what the biggest challenges in the health field are, and how various actors are tackling them.
  • Learn from best-in-class innovators and industry experts about solutions emerging in various industries.
  • Evaluate business opportunities in health as outlined by guest speakers, required readings and world news.
  • Gain hands-on experience in creating business solutions for issues in Health.
