ASME 2020 CADathon

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at UW RSO has been planning the CADathon; a competition that allows students to put Computer-Aided Design concepts to work.Students this year will compete for the chance to win a 3-D printer! 

Important Dates:

  • CADathon Kickoff: Friday, Feb 14th, 4:30pm, MEB 238
    • ASME officers will run down the schedule of the CADathon and will be there to answer any questions. ASME will reveal the long prompt, which is designed to be achievable at any skill level and be ope- ended so that your creativity can be scored, along with your technical skills. Participants will have a week to work on the long prompt before the reveal of the bonus prompt on Thursday, February 20th. Information from the kickoff meeting (prompt, rubric, FAQs) will be sent out via email after the kickoff to those on our email list.
  • Bonus Prompt and Computer Lab Space: Thursday, Feb 20th, 4:30-6:20pm. MEB
    • The bonus prompt will be revealed by ASME during this event and online after. The bonus prompt is intended to be a creative design challenge that incorporates or restricts an element of your project and shouldn’t take a significant amount of time. The computer lab space will be available for participants to utilize.
  • CADathon Expo: Friday, Feb 21st, 4:30-6:20pm, MEB 238 – Required
    • The CADathon Expo is when everyone will showcase their projects to be scored by the judges for the chance to win one of two 3D Printers! At least one member needs to be there in person to present their CAD project via a personal computer.

General Rules:

  • Only individuals and teams of 2 are allowed to participate
  • Any form of CAD software is allowed
  • At least one member must be able to showcase their CAD project at the CADathon Expo
  • NO CHEATING/OUTSIDE HELP
