College of Engineering Student Advisory Council

The College is assembling the College of Engineering Student Advisory Council (COESAC) for the 21-22 academic year and we need to identify CEE department undergraduate representatives (One from BSCE and one from BSENVE, ideally).

The time commitment for students to serve on COESAC will be to attend meetings every other Friday from 3:30-5pm during the academic year. COESAC will provide valuable input on topics such as DEI work in the college, the IEB building, the engineering fundamentals, etc.

If you are interested in self-nominating for this opportunity, please email ceadvice@uw.edu as soon as possible!

UW Hyperloop Application Open!

The Hyperloop team application is open!  This year the Hyperloop team will be pivoting to Elon Musk’s “Not-a-Boring Competition”.  The goal of this competition is to design and build a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) that uses innovative methods to speed up the process.  Our TBM will need to dig a 30 meter tunnel with a ½ meter diameter, and is judged on speed, accuracy, and the driving surface left inside of the tunnel.

Our team is broken into the following sub-teams:
Business:  The Business team is responsible for our team finances, fundraising, managing social media, and securing sponsors.
Controls:
The Controls team is responsible for the software that uses our sensors in order to monitor the status of the TBM and ensure that it does what we want it to do and stays on course.
Design:  The Design team is responsible for the appearance of our club.  This is everything from club logos and merchandise to the team website.
Cutter Head/Material Removal:  The Cutter Head/Material Removal team is responsible for the cutter head that breaks down the soil and the process to extract the soil from the tunnel.
Power:  The Power team is responsible for providing power to all of the necessary components of other sub-systems in addition to the sensors and their circuitry.
Propulsion:  The Propulsion team is responsible for propelling the TBM through the tunnel as well as driving the rotational motion of the cutter head.
Structures: (This sub-team also needs a team lead) The Structures team is responsible for both the outer structure of the TBM which holds everything together and the supporting structure which prevents the tunnel from collapsing.

We are looking for members from all grade levels and all experience levels!
