The SDOT Transit and Mobility Division Streetcar and Transit Corridors Section has an internship opportunity.
The goals and objectives of the internship program are to provide student interns the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience by working in the Seattle Department of Transportation’s Transit and Mobility Division. By providing the opportunity for interns to learn how to work in the department, SDOT hopes to train students for possible future employment at SDOT.
Interns will be compensated per the pay rates ($22.25-25.05/hour) approved by Seattle Human Resources.

What Student Interns will Learn
The intern will learn how to assess transportation problems, identify solutions, and develop projects to improve the City’s transportation system. Intern will learn how to conduct field work, collect data, and perform public outreach for projects. In addition to planning and engineering duties, interns will learn how to work in a professional environment.
Possible Assignments
- Conduct research, collect data and assess current transportation issues, i.e. bus delay, bus zone deficiencies, etc.
- Develop conceptual and 30% design plans for transit capital improvements.
- Conduct public outreach activities to inform the public about potential projects.
Intern Expectations
- Interns will work full time during the summer quarter and part time during the school year.
- Interns will work in an office environment and conduct field work as needed.
- Interns will be assigned a mentor and supervisor to provide guidance.
Desired Qualifications
Undergraduate and graduate students pursing a degree in civil engineering, urban planning or related fields.
