Occupational Intern, Skilled Environmental Sustainability
The City of Tacoma’s Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability is recruiting for a full-time or part-time intern. This temporary intern will have the opportunity to learn from Office staff and to provide technical assistance on a variety of Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability (OEPS) projects and programs. Emphasis includes working with the EnviroChallenger Education Outreach Team and the EnviroHouse. Tasks include planning, research, and engagement, including with Tacoma’s youth The intern will assist with outreach and educational lessons with goals focused on climate action, waste reduction, urban forest, and Environmental Services messaging that support the City’s health and equity goals. The intern selected for this position will be responsible for engaging in the following types of job duties:
- Assisting in OEPS communications, including improving, and updating EnviroChallenger and EnviroHouse webpage content, supporting engaging social media posts, developing and improving presentation templates, attending monthly Environmental Services Community Engagement Team meetings, and answering general office email and phone calls
- Assisting with green building initiatives such as coordinating work with EnviroHouse to update sustainable building information and resources, events, and tours
- Assisting with data collection, analytics, and reporting
- Assisting with Environmental Services outreach materials and helping staff outreach booth
- Assisting with building relationships with other organizations to support theOffice’s the EnviroChallenger work
- Assisting in design and implementation for school lessons, including air quality lessons working with the Health Department and No Idle Zone collection of data and survey
- Engaging in team meetings and brainstorming lesson designs

Hours and Terms of the Position:
This is a temporary part-time to full-time (20-40 hours per week) position that is anticipated to be filled from approximately October 2022 – October 2023.
Location and Physical Requirements of Position:
Time will usually be spent in an office and in meetings. This position requires sitting at a desk for extended periods, using a computer, traveling to other city facilities, attending meetings and taking notes, communicating over the phone and accessing employee workspaces. Hybrid in-office and remote work will be allowed and determined through Supervisor discretion.
