Internship Posting, SDOT Pavement/ADA Design Intern (Engineering) Fall 2023

Position Description

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is a nationally recognized municipal transportation agency at the leading edge of multi-modal transportation. SDOT is responsible for maintaining and operating the city’s roads, bike paths, sidewalks, and bridges. Our mission is to deliver a transportation system that provides safe and affordable access to places and opportunities.

SDOT’s Pavement Signs & Markings Division provides design and engineering support to meet yearly paving, sidewalk, and curb ramp goals for crew-built projects. We are looking for one sophomore, junior or senior college engineering intern to support our division’s current ADA design, construction inspection and asset management projects.  

As an intern with us you will work with Pavement Engineering Management Section (PEMS) engineers and receive training and support regarding the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliance policy.  If you have an interest in civil engineering or a related area of study, please join our team!

Job Responsibilities

25% Assisting PEMS ADA Program Manager with project management tasks such as preliminary work order setup.

25% Assisting Maintenance Operations Division with traffic work orders and instructions creation.

25% Assisting the program manager with ADA curb ramp designs and post construction inspections.

25% Field design data collection and post processing.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education 
Open to all undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year educational program in an accredited educational program.
 
Preferred Areas of Study:  ABET accredited Civil Engineering Program or related area of study.
 
Engineering Students must maintain GPA:  Undergraduate students 2.5 GPA or above throughout the internship.
 
EXPERIENCE
Required:

  • Proficiency with AutoDesk AutoCAD 2016 (or newer)
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word & Excel)
  • Good driving record with 2 years of driving record abstract

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Experience with Curb Ramp Maximum Extent (MEF) documentation

Additional Information

Start/End Dates:  Late October /Early November 2023 – September 1, 2024 (with potential to extend)
 
Schedule:  Intern can work up-to 20 hours/weeks while school is in session.  Up-to 40 hours/week during school breaks.  Work hours can be scheduled between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.
 
Salary:  
Engineering students will be paid $23.14-$24.92 according to class-standing (junior or senior)
