The United States Society on Dams (USSD) is excited to host its first-ever career fair for students interested in internships and entry-level positions in the dam and levee industry in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. I am part of a group of volunteer USSD Young Professionals (YPs) associated with the event who are reaching out to the various local universities in the Pacific Northwest to encourage students to attend. The dam industry consistently seeks talented engineering students to address the diverse challenges associated with dams, including the structural, geotechnical, and hydraulic analysis and design of various components. Opting for a career in dams provides an opportunity to be involved in the analysis of existing structures and maintaining our aging infrastructure as well as the design of new projects that contribute to societal benefits such as water supply for irrigation and municipalities, flood control, clean renewable energy and storage, and even recreation.  The dam industry is characterized by passionate engineers dedicated to societal well-being, and I am confident that those values align with the mission and vision of University of Washington. The USSD conference is always both fun and educational, promising students who choose to participate in this one-day career fair and conference experience a fantastic time.
