Hello,

I hope you are doing well! The Port of Seattle is hosting a series of internships catered towards engineering students. We have one in particular for college students interested in design engineering and would love to advertise it to UW students.

Join Our Team as a College Intern in Design Engineering – Civil/Structural!

Are you a student or recent graduate with a passion for civil infrastructure and structural engineering? The Port of Seattle’s Engineering Design Services Department is offering an exciting opportunity for two interns to join our team. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with experienced mentors on both office and field engineering projects. Your responsibilities will include assessing the condition of Port assets, syncing field observations with CAD drawings, and supporting project-related engineering efforts. Whether you’re a civil or structural engineering student, we encourage you to apply.

Who You Are:

As a student or recent graduate in civil engineering, architectural design, electrical engineering, or a related field, you’ll bring your commitment to equity and a curiosity to learn about design codes, industry practices, and facility systems. Working as a collaborator in our multidisciplinary engineering design team, you’ll gain hands-on experience solving real-world problems at seaport and airport facilities. Strong communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word), and organizational prowess are essential.

What to Expect:

Your summer internship will involve a 40-hour workweek, Monday to Friday, with slightly flexible start and end times. The role is primarily office-based, but you’ll have the opportunity to make regular site visits to maritime, aviation, commercial, and industrial sites. Fieldwork may be conducted in all types of weather, and some sites may only be accessed by specialized means, including boats. While the internship is expected to last up to one year, there is potential for part-time hours during the school year.

How to Apply:

If you’re ready to apply your engineering skills in a dynamic environment, submit your resume and cover letter today. Join us in contributing to critical infrastructure projects at the Port of Seattle. The Port is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment.
