Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Bridge & Structures office is currently seeking to fill a Bridge Engineer 4 (In-Training) position located in Tumwater, WA. As a member of the Bridge Design office, the Bridge Engineer 4 represents the culmination of engineering experience and on-the-job training in bridge design. All work is performed under the supervision of a Washington State Structural Engineer. This ‘in-training’ opportunity allows for candidates to be considered at either the Bridge Engineer 1, 2, 3 or 4 level depending on professional experience. To be considered at the Bridge Engineer 4 level, the successful candidate will have acquired a Professional Engineer’s License and solid work experience, enabling them to handle a majority of the structural challenges that the Bridge Design Office is responsible for. 

Bridge Engineers are relied upon for their versatility, their up to-date design and code knowledge, and their superior work production rates. To be successful in this role, it is necessary to coordinate with Region Offices, Bridge Office design specialists and engineers, consultants and bridge detailers. Additionally, the BE4 routinely represents the Bridge Office as a Bridge Technical Advisor on construction projects of various scope and scale. This position supports WSDOT’s mission of providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation by ensuring the safety and reliability of the bridges on the state highway system.
