Volunteer Opportunity: Bryant Elementary Science Fair Mentor

Read on to learn about this fun and exciting volunteering opportunity for Winter Quarter 2016:

Bryant Elementary School is currently recruiting Science Fair Mentors for their winter quarter 2016 program and they still need Monday mentors! They are happy to welcome undergraduate majors and graduate students to their program.

Description: Share your enthusiasm for science by serving as a Science Fair Mentor for students at Bryant Elementary School. As a Scientist Mentor, you will develop and lead a project related to your field of expertise. Once a week, you will meet with your small group of 4th or 5th graders to work on your science project and guide students in the most important parts of the scientific process: formulating a question or hypothesis, developing appropriate experiments with controlled, manipulated and measured variables, analyzing results, and drawing/communicating conclusions. This is your opportunity to share your learning and experience, be a team leader and inspire future scientists!

Commitment/Time Schedule: 1 session per week for 7-8 weeks, 1:35 PM to 2:45 PM

  • Mondays: January 4- February 29th, 2016 (4th graders): Need 11 mentors!
  • Fridays: January 8- February 26th, 2016 (5th graders): Full, but can sign up as alternate in case mentors withdraw
  • Science Fair: Saturday, March 5th, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM
