Intern Process Engineer
- General Description
- MEGI Engineering Inc. is a full-service engineering design and consulting firm located in Portland, OR serving the pulp and paper, industrial, power and utility, and chemical markets. We strive to provide a Collaboration of Excellence, both within the company and with our clients. As an intern process engineer the successful candidate must be able to apply engineering principals in performing tasks such as applying design criteria, methods, and procedures in performing engineering calculations, or engineering design.
- Primary Responsibilities
- Work under the mentorship and direction of senior and lead engineers with individual responsibility for assignments.
- Generally responsible for the technical execution of assigned work delivered on-time, within budget and meeting quality standards.
- Understand the process design criteria for the project and/or assignment.
- PFD and P&ID development, heat and material balances, hydraulic calculations, and other process engineering tasks.
- Prepare process engineering deliverables.
- Prepare equipment data sheets, equipment specifications and assist in the development of bid packages for procurement of equipment.
- Review and check vendor information and reconcile verses the process design documents.
- Coordinate with others to ensure inter-disciplinary alignment of the design effort.
- Review discipline design information and design drawings for process engineering input and participate in inter-discipline design reviews.
- Develop familiarity with and utilize industry standards, procedures, and guidelines.
- Qualifications/Qualities
- Pursuing Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Paper Engineering
- Relevant experience or knowledge of the pulp and paper or similar industry
- Familiarity with industrial processes such as pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and control valves.
- Familiarity with 2D and 3D computer aided design platforms.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Able to travel as required, possibly up to 25%
- Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving (MVR) policy
- US Citizenship and Valid US Driver’s License
Junior Process Engineer

As a junior process engineer the successful candidate must be able to apply engineering principals in performing tasks such as the evaluation of standard design criteria, methods, and procedures, engineering calculations, or engineering design.
- Primary Responsibilities
- Work under the mentorship and direction of senior and lead engineers with individual responsibility for quality and accuracy as well as performance budget and schedule.
- Understand the project scope and deliverables. Initiate timely project change notices when deviations are made from project scope that affect the cost of the work, deliverable and/or schedule.
- Review the process design criteria for the project.
- PFD and P&ID development, heat and material balances, hydraulic calculations and other process engineering tasks.
- Prepare process engineering deliverables.
- Prepare equipment specifications and assist in the development of bid packages for procurement of equipment.
- Review and check vendor information and reconcile verses the process design documents.

- Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving (MVR) policy

Typical duties will be performed in an office environment with occasional field trips to operating facilities or construction sites. This requires ability to sit for extended periods of time, computer data entry, normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting 25 pounds may be required. Salary and benefits negotiable based on level of experience and the agreed upon responsibilities.
